Women are Broken

The newly released, blatantly pornographic film Fifty Shades of Grey contains even more than meets the eye.  It shows quite clearly where the sexual revolution is at.

We are past feminism.
Without acknowledging God, women stray from natural
law and eventually despair, "What am I made for?"

Feminism is the idea of women being socially equal to men.  This idea is false since, for example, women are obviously more suited to be mothers and men are obviously more suited to do heavy work.  Essentially, feminism only serves to deny a woman her natural strengths and promote her weaknesses.

But now we see new levels of abasement in popular culture when it comes to a woman's role.

Yes, Fifty Shades of Grey sinks even lower into realms of social, physical and psychological abuse.  The film promotes a lifestyle of seeking happiness in breaking all the rules.  This attitude dismisses God and natural law, creating an inhuman environment in which confusion and perversion reign supreme.  Dignity, the inherent nobility we have as children of God, cannot exist without grace.  Consequently, immoral lifestyles progress to become even more licentious and abusive until they eventually reach despair.

Chivalry, that marvelous regard for graceful femininity, is unable to survive amid such onslaught.  The kind of uncivilized behavior in a film like Fifty Shades of Grey truly removes from life all that is mythical, divine and beautiful.

When beauty is gone, so is eternal salvation!

What are we to conclude?

"To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to be worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women."
-Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

*Please realize that I have not seen the movie Fifty Shades of Grey, knowing enough already to conclude the basis of my article.*

A Weekday In Feminine Dress

A Weekday in Feminine Dress is when I post pictures of my outfit (or a friend's outfit) to encourage other women to dress like a Catholic lady!  I also include where the outfit was purchased to give women some ideas for finding modest clothes!  I am always looking for volunteers to submit pictures of their feminine outfit, so please don't hesitate to do so at, thecatholiclady@gmail.com.

If you happened to run into me around town, this is probably what I would look like.  This outfit has really become my standard lately because it's warm and functional.  It is slowly getting warmer by the way; I really think I can feel the Spring coming!  I realize these are not the best pictures.  It is so hard to get the right angle to capture my whole outfit when I'm standing in front of that mirror!  You have no idea!  I know my hair is a mess too.  But I still thought it would be nice to share them here anyway:

Happy Lent except I guess it's not really supposed to be happy!  Either way I hope it is blessed and full of graces for you!  I gave up sugar and useless computer time (more difficult than you might expect) and resolved to spend a bit more effort preparing meals and working on my blog.

And here is what I wore a few days ago.  Not the best photo, but a very nice and warm outfit nonetheless!  It is below freezing here with a wind chill...really, really cold!  It is difficult even to go out with little children in this weather.  As you can see, Thomas somehow got in this picture too.

Against All Reason

This February, kids are wearing shorts instead of coats to school!

Yes, you read that right.  The latest trend is defying reason for popularity.  Just last Sunday (when it was zero degrees outside) I saw a girl in shorts and a tee shirt coming out of Church with her mother who was all bundled up against the cold.  Now putting the whole modesty issue aside, and the whole courtesy issue aside, this is just ridiculous and absurd!  Something that a two year old might want to do.

And that is just the point.  Fashion has slowly but surely strayed from its inherent functions of identity, modesty, and protection from the elements, to become a subjective expression that goes against all reason.

On the Nobility of the Catholic Lady

Nobility sets an example in good manners, behavior and appearance.  Perhaps contrary to popular thought, these qualities are far more important than material wealth or social status.

Nobility in name and title exists still in many countries, remnants of the age of Catholic gentility.  But even in modern day America we see elites both good and bad who rise to the surface in every circle of life.  Good elites provide the great benefits of natural structure, good example and true charity.
The charity of St. Elizabeth of Hungary

Maybe you think of nobility as being far removed from the housewife's situation and the present day.  If so, you are wrong.  Every child of God is called to be noble.

Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "To a great extent the level of any civilization is the level of its womanhood. When a man loves a woman, he has to become worthy of her. The higher her virtue, the more her character, the more devoted she is to truth, justice, goodness, the more a man has to aspire to become worthy of her. The history of civilization could actually be written in terms of the level of its women."

Nobility challenges society to reach supernatural heights of virtue and excellence.  Noble is the soul of any true Catholic lady who stands up to influence the timeless goals of Christian civilization.

A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever

There is a growing tendency, even among "good" people, to break from traditional beliefs and principles, especially those fundamental Truths which the Catholic Church teaches.  This sad state can be consciously desired, but is more commonly I think, a subconscious concession to the evil of our day.

Such modernism is dangerous.

This is how the Revolution progresses.  It begets the desire of wanting to belong, updating to match the times and despising "old-fashioned" and dated material.  But the danger is in this!  Timeless principles are forsaken.  Is this not the concept of sin itself?  Pride and disobedience?  The desire to get rid of old-fashioned restrictions?

Yet to abolish objective right and wrong is to abolish God.

I see myself in this.  I want to fit in; I want to be fashionable; I want to forget tradition.  I know this is shocking.  It even shocks me!  But what is more inherent to human nature than to want to adapt to the surroundings?

But I desire Heaven and so I must externally recall it's timeless, everlasting principles on Earth.

God's truth is objective, a simple concept really.  We must learn to value and retain with care the culture that surrounds such glorious truth.  We must cultivate innocence and the ability to marvel at good things.  Such simple concepts as male and female, traditional marriage, traditional motherhood and beautiful femininity must be valued, protected, passed on the next generations...

Because a thing of beauty is a joy forever!

An Update and What Our Life Looks Like Right Now

I have been neglecting my blog again, not willing or able to take a break from family life for some serious writing.  So I just wanted to let you all know that I am still around!  This is what takes up most of my time:

Those three crazy babies!  Cutting up food into little pieces and keeping them clean is ALOT easier said than done!  But it fills my days and I love it.

We are so excited for Spring to finally come and I keep reminding myself that the days are getting longer and soon the weather will be getting warmer too!  I look forward to parks and picnics, sunshine and fresh produce.  Hopefully, this will all be here before we know it!

I hope that everyone out there reading this is well and happy and I wish you all a very blessed St. Valentine's Day!  And I am excited to show you a few new outfits in the next couple of weeks on my feminine dress posts!

Accessorize Winter

February is such a dreary month for fashion!  The weather makes it so difficult to go out wearing anything pretty and elegant!  But, a few weeks ago I decided to confront this difficulty with winter accessories!  I learned that belts, scarves, boots, jewelry, jackets and handbags are the key to conquering the February wardrobe.  I have been having so much fun with this project!  I am going to share some of my own outfits in the near future, but for now here are a few examples I found of pretty winter accessories (most from Chadwicks.com):
