The Privilege of the Catholic Mother

"The most important person on earth is a mother.  She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral.  She need not.  She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral- a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body.  The angels have not been blessed with such a grace.  They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new Saints to Heaven.  Only a human mother can.  Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creatures.  God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation.
What on God's good earth is more glorious than this; to be a mother?"

Lucifer rebelled upon hearing God's plan for the Savior to be born of a Woman.  He envied the favor God showed to Our Lady, similar to the favor God gives to every human mother.  If we could transcend into the Eternal sphere would we not realize too the incredible privilege of being a mother?

The past century of radical sexual equality has stripped woman of the highest privilege due her nature: motherhood.  Feminism pushes women to step down from the pedestal and usurp the jobs of men.  It leaves motherhood unguarded along with marriage and purity.  And these primary social values are in turn assaulted by immoral people, the homosexual and transgender agendas, and other promiscuous movements.  Childbearing no longer requires the supportive elements: God, husbands and wives.

We must honor and value the privilege of motherhood.  For this the acceptance of sacrifice is essential.  Privilege entails a great devotion to duty, suffering and self-denial.  This lesson is learned well from contemplating the sword which pierced Our Lady's Immaculate Heart.

"Catholic NFP" is another attack on the dignity of Christian motherhood.  This drastically overused method of avoiding pregnancy has infiltrated Catholic families like a plague.  NFP reduces marriage to an equal partnership of career oriented individuals and puts motherhood on the backburner along with God's plan.  This secular attitude assaults the supernatural nature of the Sacrament of Marriage, the primary purpose of which is the salvation of souls and procreation of children to populate Heaven.  Furthermore, the obsession people seem to have with planning everything from birth to death shows society leaving the Christian order in favor of a temporal-honoring society.

The Christian institution of motherhood is supported in no better way than by honoring the husband.  In the Christian order this respect is symbolic of the respect we show to God.  Children are influenced by seeing their mother's submission to a devout father and learn the subjectivity they must show to God and His laws.

Widespread divorce and immorality is a result of feminism and women lowering their standards.  Even a bad husband can often be tolerated and eventually converted as St. Monica proved.  Replacing nagging with private prayer might be the key to changing the heart of a misguided husband.  How much more happy would husbands be if they saw their wives cherishing the privilege of motherhood instead of complaining and throwing it away?
