RIP Officer Brian Shaw: Deserving of Sublime Respect

Police become heroes with the willingness to sacrifice themselves
for righteousness.  These heroes stir up sublime respect in Americans,
a respect that is beautiful, awe-inspiring and even comforting.
Today was the Catholic funeral Mass of Officer Brian Shaw, a young policeman who was shot in the line of duty last Friday in New Kensington, PA.

Even through the television screen, the feeling of respect for Officer Shaw's sacrifice was apparent.  With his sacrifice, he became a hero.  And on this busy day before Thanksgiving, thousands of people came to line the streets, wave American flags and hold signs that said, "God bless Officer Shaw".  Thousands of police- some from out of state- dressed in uniform with a black line struck through their badges made up the procession that went on for miles.  The silence and flashing lights added to the powerful aura of what could be called "sublime respect".

What is this sublime respect people intuitively show to someone laying in a coffin?

There is no egalitarian despondency here!  We think of a man who has now been judged by God and are left to marvel at his heroic sacrifice.  All police become heroes with the willingness to sacrifice themselves for righteousness.  "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matt. 5:10)  These heroes stir up sublime respect in Americans, a respect that is beautiful, awe-inspiring and even comforting.

We need to ask: do the anthem kneelers care about this?  Colin Kaepernick, apparently a self-professed lover of Communism and it's murderous leaders, wore a Fidel Castro t-shirt.  He is a poster child of anarchists who hate every symbol of law and order because of the reflection of goodness and God.

The death of Officer Brian Shaw is an example of excellent, grand and beautiful Christian love.  We are overcome by sublime respect.  For, "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Officer Shaw, symbolic and noble defender of law and order, rest in peace.

May Eternal Rest grant unto him, O Lord.  And let perpetual light shine upon him.  May he rest in peace.  May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.
